Circle of Five

A writer once said, You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.”  If this is true, which five people would you like to spend your time with?

I would consider it a great priviledge and honour if I could spend some time with these people.    I would like to learn from these people but I still want to be my unique self.  I believe that by spending more time with inspiring, motivating and humorous people some of their enthusiasm and creative energy would influence me and motivate me to become a better person.

Jerry Seinfeld
I enjoy watching him perform stand-up comedy as well as on the sitcom Seinfeld.  He has a great sense of humour

Stephen Hawking
One great physicist I would love to meet in my lifetime.  He is a very inspiring person.

Amitabh Bachchan
A superstar of Bollywood cinema who has made a name for himself in Hollywood also.  He has a great personality with a towering figure and a baritone  voice that captures everyones attention

Jim Rohn
One of my favourite motivational speakers.  I would like to learn a lot from him.

Dr. APJ Abdul  Kalam
The man behind India’s successful space programme.  A great scientist who inspires Indians everywhere with his great ideas and humility.

O La Paloma Blanca

April 22, 2014 Leave a comment

Are you a night owl or are you the early bird? What’s your most productive time of day? When do you do your best work?

The early hours are the best part of my day. It is the time when I can focus my mind and decide on the quality of thoughts for the day. After a good nights rest, it is in the morning that there is a flurry of thoughts that invade our mind. Before that happens I usually have half an hour of quiet time for prayer, contemplation and peace.

I find that this practice has been of great help to me especially in times of challenge. After a good rest, the morning sun recharges me and I am ready to give my best. So I am a morning bird that sings “O la Paloma blanca”

When the sun shines on the mountains
and the night is on the run,
its a new day,its a new way,
and I fly up to the sun.

I can feel the morning sunlight.
I can smell the new-morn hay.
I can hear Gods voices calling
of my golden skylight way.

O la paloma blanca,
Im just a bird in the sky.
O la paloma blanca,
over the mountains I fly.
Yes, no one can take my freedom away.

Once I had my share of losing,
once they locked me on a chain.
Yes, they tried to break my power.
Oh I still can feel the pain.

O la paloma blanca,
Im just a bird in the sky.
O la paloma blanca,
over the mountains I fly.
Yes, no one can take my freedom away.

If I Could Turn Back Time

If you could return to the past to relive a part of your life, either to experience the wonderful bits again, or to do something over, which part of you life would you return to? Why?

If I could really turn back time, I would like to go back to my childhood years when I was 8 – 10 years old. My childhood time was really colourful and packed with activities.

Climbing trees, plucking cashews, tamarind, mangoes, jamuns, blackberries gave a thrill to us. We used to also play kabaddi, 7-tiles, cricket, TT during playtime.

We had a big community at our colony. We used to get together for all festivals irrespective of religion. We also emjoyed participating in dramas, competitions, games, entertainment programmes, movie screenings etc

I would also like to go back to spend more time with my mother who is no more.  I would like to be with her, care for her and thank her for all that she has done for me

Childhood was a really fun phase of my life!

The future is now!

September 11, 2013 2 comments

Everwhere robots
and flying machines!
Smart glasses to surf
And smart watches that talk
Will we have time?
To sit down and chat

All your life encoded
In one smart chip
Who is real and
Who is a clone?
Will we have time?
To relax or take a nap

Driverless cars
And invisible cloaks
Instant cures
For aging and disease
Will we have time?
To feel the sweet breeze

All that I know
Is this moment
Let us fill it with love
and laughter and fun
Why bother about time?
The future is now!

Time

December 25, 2012 3 comments

Lone spectator in the audience
Watching the movie of life unfold
Your hands keep moving
To the beat of your heart

Watching babies cry
And teenagers mature
Counting gray hairs on our heads
And the number of wrinkles on our skin

Innocent wonder is lost
To anger and vapid worry
Days, months and years pass by
As you keep a faithful watch

This game of hide and seek goes on
You think it is childs play
Time you cannot bind me
For I am fearless and free

Like a gullible fool you standby
As the body withers and dies
Well, If you think you have won the game
It is you who will be put to shame!

Day 15 — Given the choice between infinite time or infinite money, I would choose…

April 16, 2012 Leave a comment

Given a choice between these two ‘imaginary’ situations it would be ‘ Infinite money for me!  I wouldn’t  like to have infinite time as I wouldn’t like to live like a vegetable. I feel one has to have some constraint inorder to function creatively in this world otherwise it would lead to lethargy.  I would rather use the limited time that l have at my hands to live to the best of my potential.

Coming to the subject of infinite money!   Well that is truly a blessing but it doesn’t come without its problems.  Spending the money wisely is important.  I would first of all buy a decent dwelling for myself and my close ones and put aside savings for the rest of our lives.

I wouldn’t keep any more money for myself and would keep donating everyday to  the poor.

Since, the money is infinite I would donate to all the charitable institutions around the world, to education, to alleviate poverty, hunger, diseases etc.  I would also travel around the world to help build homes for the needy and to sponsor their medical care.

I would then tell the banks to stop printing money as I can provide them with their needs forever – maybe I will be appointed President of the World Bank and will be given permanent residence in all  countries for my infinite contributions 🙂

The Witness

September 11, 2011 12 comments

Clock ticks heard
Time flies by
The sun rises
New day dawns

Rush to work
The traffic jams
Deadlnes to meet
The project stalls

Time for lunch
Food is served
Back to business
Rush for growth

Love then marriage
Children and diapers
Priorities and choices
Arguments and clashes

Kites, boats, games
Dirty little feet
World of fun
And childhood pranks

Sky turns crimson
Birds fly home
Dusk sets in
Streets light up

Old and tired
Age is queer
Weary and wrinkled
Slow and cautious

The cycle continues
Day and night
A silent witness
Sees it all

Timeless and eternal
Pure and infinite
One and only
Substance of all

Countryside

Man has soared into space
Built giant skyscrapers
Harnessed the power of the tides
Built roads and highways
robots and  supercomputers,
Resorts and theme parks
And understood artificial intelligence

He flies in jets
Owns yachts
Drives a porsche
And lives in palatial bungalows
He has made billions
Servants at his beck and call
Yet why is there a void?

In  the countryside
Time stands still
Cattle graze listlessly in the green pasture
Farmers sing an invocation to nature
while they plough the field
And when its harvest time
They’re content with what they reap
