Childhood never ends
When you stop
To look at the full moon
And utter soft whispers
To the starlit sky
When you climb trees
Or play in roadside puddles
And dance in the rain
in gay abandon
When doubts rise from your bosom
And your eyes light up in wonder
When you move from one task to another
Without loss of energy
When you see no divisions
in colour, caste, race or religion
When you can laugh with joy
Or dance like nobody’s watching
Then there is a child in you
Brimming with boundless joy
Who knows only love
And Childhood never ends

Ally or Foe?
He wakes up in the morning
And trails me all day
As I walk outside
I see he is right behind
When night befalls
He disappears
This shadow of mine
Is he an Ally or Foe?

Why I write poetry?
What is Poetry?
Poetry is a literary work in which the expression of feelings and ideas is given intensity by the use of distinctive style and rhythm. Poetry uses aesthetic and rythmic qualities of language to evoke meanings in place of prosaic ostensible meaning. It attemps to stir a reader’s imagination or emotions
How to write poetry?
Poetry has the following elements:
Structure : In poems, lines are often grouped together into what are called stanzas. Like paragraphs, stanzas are often used to organize ideas.
Imagery :
Poets use imagery to draw readers into a sensory experience. Images will often provide us with mental snapshots that appeal to our senses of sight, sound, taste, touch, and smell. In essence, images show us meaning; when we compare the snapshots in our mind to our own memories or experiences, we connect emotionally to the poem.
Protest

Her tender arms
Could not resist
The brutal force
Of animal instinct
The lecherous look
Of a trusted relative
Scared her to death
Beneath the sheets
When Childhood Ends
When you stop
To look at the full moon
And utter soft whispers
To the starlit sky
When you climb trees
Or play in roadside puddles
And dance in the rain
in gay abandon
When doubts rise from your bosom
And your eyes light up in wonder
When you move from one task to another
Without loss of energy
When you see no divisions

Or dance like nobody’s watching
Then there is a child in you

Who knows only love
And Childhood never ends

The Sparrow Nest
The sparrow flies
Gingerly holding the straw
That shines like gold
in the morning sunlight
She flies again
In search of straw
Binds them together
Into a beautiful nest
She watches over her young ones
Eyes reflecting tender care
Like a mother standing at the porch
Her baby clinging to her apron
A plethora of words
Thoughts, images and ideas
spin timeless in my head
Experiences, insights, discoveries
Scribblings on blank paper
Musings from the soul
Create a tangled web
Of poetry and verse

Life is…
Sometimes I wonder , Is life…
A riddle?
and ponder on the purpose
of our existence
A journey?
all taking different paths
that lead to the same destination
A dream?
of fear, of success, of bliss
Until I wake up and it is over
A game?
played with team-spirit
sometimes we win, sometimes we lose
A drama?
We are actors in the unfolding scene
Playing our parts until the curtains fall
Music?
That sounds divine when played in harmony
To our inner voice
Poetry?
words that eulogise
the wonders of nature that never cease
A thought?
that takes birth as a seed in the mind
and manifests as reality
A wave?
We will be tossed about unless
we learn to ride the ebb and flow
This moment?
in time which will fleet by
Unless we are immersed in it

If……my favourite poem
One of my favourite poems is If by Rudyard Kipling. This poem written to his son is thought-provoking and has practical value even a hundred years after it has been penned. The message in the poem is to be humble, conquer our likes and dislikes and to enjoy life in even trying moments.
If by Rudyard Kipling
If you can keep your head when all about you If you can dream – and not make dreams your master; If you can make one heap of all your winnings If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue, |
The Connection
Early morning chores done
Tugging along a heavy bag
I drop my daughter to school
I wish her and kiss her goodbye
I pass by the main school gate
On my way to work
I smile and wave to the security guard
He smiles back and waves
For a year or so
I have been seeing him every day
The only connection between us
A smile and a wave
Today morning at breakfast
My daughter said to me
‘Our security guard passed away’
I was silent and couldn’t believe her
I passed the main gate today
On my way to work
Looking for the security guard
But he was not there
I pictured him in my mind
And smiled and waved to him
He smiled back and waved
May you rest in peace
