Fear Factor

November 29, 2013 4 comments

I am posting a poem on Courage which I had posted earlier.  I may be quite afraid of heights, reptiles and ghosts. But my greatest fear is of human psychos. I fear people who are vengeful, spend their time in witchcraft and black magic and those whose sole purpose of existence is to create fear and panic. These sadistic people get a thrill out of engaging in such acts throughout the day.

They may have gone through some form of abuse as kids and badly need the help of  society to wake them up from their ignorance. Only love and understanding can conquer this problem

Courage

When you are in the middle of critics
And not a  single soul believes you
When the whole world thinks you are a liar
Can you stand up for the truth?

When failure stares at you
When anguish, sorrow and pain confront you
When storms tear you asunder
Do you still follow your dream?

When there is a steep mountain to climb
And your legs are weak and tired
When the slope is slippery and arduous
Do you lose sight of your goal?

When this body is shrieking in agony
And the final moment nears
When the last breath is seeping out
Can you smile and face death?

Courage is not bravado
You don’t have to shout and roar
It is that little voice within you
That constantly guides you

Safety first

November 22, 2013 Leave a comment

I recall the time when I started to learn swimming. We were taken to the deep end of the pool and our instructor taught us to tread water. I was holding on to the side wall and it was so difficult to let go. Although I have learnt basic swimming, I have yet to overcome this fear.

Whenever I practice treading, I make sure that there is a lifeguard or go along with friends as I do believe that safety is most important when learning any new skill.

I can be quite clumsy at times and sometimes get into accidents. But, I still love to take the risk and try out new stuff.

Fright Night

What’s the thing you’re most scared to do? What would it take to get you to do it?
Photographers, artists, poets: show us FRIGHTENING.

I would say I am quite scared of sky diving or bungy jumping.  I would like to muster the courage to try out this someday!

I am posting here a poem which I have posted earlier on Fear

We shrink and we shrivel
Shivers go through our spine
It causes us to shriek and shout
We get palpitations and
Break into a sweat
What is this thing called fear?

Fear of failure
Fear of loss
Fear of the future
Fear of the dark
Fear of heights
Fear of the unknown

Let not your mind wander
into doubts and confusion
Courage and confidence
can quell all self-doubt
Take a deep breath
Recover your poise
There is nothing to fear
But fear itself!

Love to love you

November 18, 2013 1 comment

What do you love most about yourself? What do you love most about your favorite person? Are the two connected?
Photographers, artists, poets: show us LOVE.

All your life
We were the centre of your universe
How can I describe love
Patient, selfless, sincere?

The day I heard you speak
Tears streamed from my eyes
How can I describe love
Innocent, bright, wondrous?

The magic of your creation
Bewildering, Unfathomable
How can I describe love
Inspiring, Overwhelming, bliss

Shaking order into random motion
Blending art into my logic
Bringing music into mundane routine
Complementing the voids

Trying to define love
Is shining a candle to the sun
Lifting the veil of ignorance
Lead me into your light

Competition

November 11, 2013 1 comment

You’re set to play poker (or Scrabble or something else . . .) with a group of four. Write a story set during this game. Or, describe the ideal match: the players, the relationships — and the hidden rivalries.
Photographers, artists, poets: show us COMPETITION.

20131111_142919

The four pairs of eyes glared at the words on the scrabble board.  All the clues had a hidden meaning.

Ajay, Prakash, Rahul and Akash used to gather at the clubhouse to play a game of scrabble. But today, the mood was chilling. Everyone sensed something amiss. Akash was the top student in his class and was also captain of the school hockey team. He was to meet Rita on his way after the game.

CRIME, JEALOUS, HOCKEY, CAPTAIN, GRADE, FRIEND

Ajay looked at the words and then at Rahul. Rahul was sweating and nervous. He was not selected for the school hockey team and this time his grades were not good either.

Akash sensed trouble. He suddenly said “Guys, I have to go home”. He grabbed his hockey stick and started off. Ajay said, “Congrats Akash”. Rahul also congratulated him. But Rahul just looked down and ignored them.

I got to go too, he said. Akash was far ahead. Which way did he go? Rahul took a short cut through the forest and came to a clearing. He waited there for Akash.

Suddenly, he spotted him coming. He hid behind the bushes. As soon as Akash was near, he wrapped the sweater around his head and grabbing the hockey stick he knocked him down. He then ran as fast as he could.

Meanwhile, Ajay and Prakash sensed some trouble. They had seen Rahul nervous and suspected something. They quickly followed suit. They went to Akash’s house and checked. He had not reached home yet. His mother asked, “What has happened? Where is Akash?”. They told her about the game and assured her that they would find him.

They quickly went back and this time they took the short cut through the forest. After a long search they found Akash lying with his head covered in a grey sweater. That sweater belongs to Rahul, said Ajay. They found him bleeding from the head, but he was still breathing. The hockey stick was nearby.

They rushed him to the hospital and were able to save his life. His parents were relieved.

Let us catch Rahul and teach him a lesson! they said.

Future

November 10, 2013 4 comments

Write the About page for your blog in 10 years.
Photographers, artists, poets: show us FUTURE.

I hope I am still a human – and not with a chip planted into my skin which holds all information about me.
I hope that I can still share on my blog with fellow bloggers.
I hope that along with the great technological advances we still maintain our humility, love and graciousness.
I hope that we still have books around to read.
I hope that we still travel a lot and take time away from the gadgets that are distracting us.
I hope that progress does not make a monster out  of man. I hope that we still have gratitude for what we are blessed and endowed with.

I can only hope because the future is not something to foretell. Our present is the  blueprint for our future.  So the  best thing to do is to pray that by the grace of God, we create a world of peace, goodwill and harmony for the generations to come!

“The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams” – Eleanor Roosevelt

Cheering Section

Do you have a mentor? Tell us about him or her. Are you a mentor to someone else? Tell us what that relationship has added to your life.
Photographers, artists, poets: show us SUPPORT.

cool-cartoon-6807880

I love teaching and mentoring students. A mentor is a trusted guide, counsellor and friend who can be relied upon. Mentors usually bring with them years of experience and knowledge. So, they have gone through the trials and tribulations. The advantage of having a mentor is that we can avoid committing many mistakes.

Our toastmasters club is initiating a mentorship programme and our mentor is a senior member of the club who has been with the club since its inception. He has years of experience in training, speaking and leadership.

Mentoring new members will give us a chance to develop our listening, coaching and leadership skills.

I feel that it is important to have a mentor in your career too but I do not have one currently.

As parents we are also mentors to our children. As such we have a role to set an example for them, as children learn a lot by mimicking their parents in their formative years.
