The Happy Wanderer

April 30, 2015 Leave a comment

What’s your travel style? Are you itinerary and schedule driven, needing to have every step mapped out in advance or are you content to arrive without a plan and let happenstance be your guide?

I am not much of a planner when it comes to travelling.  So sometimes I miss out on good deals. But there is fun in taking some risk and making last minute bookings.  I have done free-and-easy trips.  The fun is that you get to soak in the local sights and sounds, take the local transport and explore areas that you would not get to see if you are on a planned itinerary.  (Usually, guided tours only cover places of interest)

But if I am visiting a new country I do some planning to avoid hassles.  Many a times, I could not get flight tickets or a hotel by waiting too long to decide. A good tour guide with a knowledge of the local history, customs, monuments and cuisine can be of great help when visiting a new country.  He can make your journey enjoyable and you can learn a few things about the place.

I have a lot of places to explore and countries to learn about and I need to pack my bags soon! I have taken flights and buses and one thing  I would love to try is go backpacking on  some adventurous trips, treks and climbs with groups of people.

Come fly with me

Share a story about the furthest you’ve ever traveled from home.
Photographers, artists, poets: show us TRAVELS.

One of my furthest trips from home was to Netherlands where I lived for 3 months. I had a great time learning about life in Europe and I could also visit London, Belgium and Scotland during my stay there.

On The Road

October 1, 2013 Leave a comment

If you could pause real life and spend some time living with a family anywhere in the world, where would you go?
Photographers, artists, poets: show us TRAVELS.

I have a long list of favourite destinations to visit and if I were to select a country where I could spend some time with a family it would be Spain first and then France.

I am in awe of the Spanish people – their high energy, enthusiasm and bubbly nature. I would love to soak in the culture and learn more about their ways of life.

France is another favourite destination for me because I learnt French in school and about the wonderful places and food but have yet to experience it first hand.

Ofcourse there are a lot of places I would also love to visit in my home country India – like Rajasthan,  Assam, Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Agra etc.

So – some day I would love to pack my bags and head down to these destinations.
