Back to school

August 28, 2014 Leave a comment

The last time I went to school I graduated in Engineering. After that there is this urge to complement the logical thinking of engineering with some artistic right brain thinking, so I decided to learn to play the violin.

Given a chance, I would love to go back to school to study art or master the french language as I studied basic french in my school days.

“Learn everything you can, anytime you can, from anyone you can, there will always
come a time when you will be grateful you did.”

You, Robot

August 25, 2014 Leave a comment

Congrats — you’ve been handed a robot whose sole job is to relieve you of one chore, job, or responsibility you particularly hate. What is it?

As technology is pervading every sphere of our lives and gadgets are becoming ubiquitous, we are becoming couch potatoes.  So, I do not need another robot to control my life.

We are outsourcing every aspect of our life today.  We do not want to remember birthdays – facebook gives you a timely reminder.  We do not want to remember telephone numbers, events, names our as our smartphones can do that.  Everything is remote controlled today.  Lights, fan, air-conditioner, TV, the microwave –so if we employ a robot to ease any more of our tasks, we risk becoming more sedentary, lethargic and good-for-nothing nincompoops.

So, if there is still any task for which I would keep a robot it would be to remind me in a clear voice  everyday – “Hey, wake up.  Get up and run! “ or “ Do some exercise my friend” or “Stop playing with that smartphone and get some work done”!

Work? Optional!

August 22, 2014 Leave a comment

If money were out of the equation, would you still work? If yes, why, and how much? If not, what would you do with your free time?

In today’s world, one has basic needs – shelter, mouths to feed and clothing.  These are just basic necessities and cannot be bought without money. So, we cannot leave money out of the equation.  Ofcourse, money is not the only requirement in life – there is a need for love, recognition and happiness.

Once our basic needs are met then we can think beyond the immediate confines of our family to encompass  our community, our country and the world at large.  But if we are living to meet our basic needs, then it becomes difficult to be altruistic even if we are kind and generous at heart.

I enjoy doing volunteer work in my free time but that does not fulfil my needs. It gives me a sense of fulfilment.  So, earning money is not to be viewed in a wrong light.  We need money but being selfish, hoarding money and earning money by gambling or wrong means will bring more pain and misery than happiness!
