To Sleep, Perchance to Dream

Sleep is one-third of our lives: write a post about it. Do you love naps? Have trouble falling alseep? Wish you could remember your dreams? Remember something especially vivid? Snuggle under a blanket, or throw the windows wide open? Meditate on sleep.

Lying in the mothers lap
After a fun day
Sleep like a lullaby
Soothes the little infant

Fatigued, tanned bodies
Lie on the pavement
Sleep gives solace to them
Magical,  sweet sleep

Sleep tender sleep
You ease the pain
Calm the nerves
And appease tired souls

Like a loving mother
Who dotes all her kids
You bring tranquil peace
To thief, saint, beggar and  king

Sleep take me on a dream
To a world without walls
Where there is only joy and peace
And one does not belittle another

Mr Sandman

March 24, 2014 Leave a comment

What kind of sleeper are you? Do you drop off like a stone and awaken refreshed, or do you need pitch black and silence to drift off to dream?

I have  experienced  how insufficient sleep can wreak havoc with your day.   Sleep is vital for me to refresh, rejuvenate and enjoy my day. I try to make it a point to have atleast a 1 hour afternoon nap on weekends and a good nights sleep every day.

I do not need much time to knock off. When I go to bed, I usually take a book to read. After some time I just forget everything else, say my prayers and then I am fast asleep.

Here is a poem on Sleep that I had posted earlier:

Lying in the mothers lap
After a fun day
Sleep like a lullaby
Soothes the little infant

Fatigued, tanned bodies
Lie on the pavement
Sleep gives solace to them
Magical, sweet sleep

Sleep tender sleep
You ease the pain
Calm the nerves
And appease tired souls

Like a loving mother
Who dotes all her kids
You bring tranquil peace
To thief, saint, beggar and king

Sleep take me on a dream
To a world without walls
Where there is only joy and peace
And one does not belittle another

Dream

February 27, 2014 1 comment

What is the best dream you’ve ever had? Recount it for us in all its ethereal glory. If no dream stands out in your memory, recount your worst nightmare. Leave no frightening detail out.
Photographers, artists, poets: show us IMAGINARY.

(This is a poem which I had published  last year and here I would like to post it again)

dream

A gathering of familiar faces
Of relatives and of friends
A vexing thought revisited
In the canvas of my dream

From the inner recesses
Out of the blue
Objects, characters and emotions
Enact the play in my mind

Screams and sighs
Echoes of laughter
Chased by a tiger
Fights with that school bully

A medley of thoughts
Hidden desires
Resurface and unfold
In a whole new world

A reverie to remember
Or a nightmare best forgotten
Lost in this maze
Of my minds kaleidoscope

The alarm ring resonates
And I wake up with a start
Befuddled by this conundrum
That they call ‘A Dream’

I am Me

January 13, 2013 2 comments

I’m just another person
Living a happy life
I have my quirks
And can be quite a jerk

Can’t juggle with balls
Or pull a rabbit out of a hat
But I’m simple and friendly
If that’s what you seek

I have dreams and hopes
And I do set goals
But I’m thankful I’m blessed
With more than I need

I love to wonder
Laugh and cry
And look at nature
With an innocent eye

Don’t ask for perfection
If you find me clumsy
I wear no mask
I am Me

13 goals for 2013

January 13, 2013 Leave a comment

The new year 2013 has set in and with it hopes of new challenges, wish lists and resolutions.   I would like to embark on some new endeavours, travels and also some soul searching.  So I just thought of putting down 13 wish lists or resolutions that I would like to achieve this year!

1)      Travel to some new destination – perhaps HongKong, Australia, Bali besides India

2)       Climb up the career ladder

3)       Spend quality time with family

4)       Read many more books

5)       Doing blogposts more regularly

6)       Taking out my bicycle which has been lying unused for some time

7)       Progress on my toastmasters journey

8)       Making time to coach my daughter in her studies

9)      Continue to attend events by Chinmaya mission

10)    Doing some volunteer work more often

11)   Spend wisely and save for travel, family treats, really important stuff etc

12)   Learn something new eg. Sanskrit, EMBA etc.

13)   Keep fit and healthy

Have you made any resolutions for this year?  What are your immediate and long-term goals?  What is that dream thing that you want to accomplish and have been putting off for too long?

Mother

January 21, 2012 6 comments

In my dreams
From a world yonder
You still appear
With all the answers

Holding twilight in your hands
You wake me up
To a new dawn
Of beauty and wonder

You watched me grow
Like a ray of hope
And put me to sleep
With divine kisses

Caring eyes reflect
Sacrifice and concern
Words unspoken
Convey everything

O Mother! O Angel!
From the kingdom of love
Showering grace upon me
O Star!  in the sky

Courage

April 21, 2011 23 comments

When you are in the middle of critics
And not a  single soul believes you
When the whole world thinks you are a liar
Can you stand up for the truth?

When failure stares at you
When anguish, sorrow and pain confront you
When storms tear you asunder
Do you still follow your dream?

When there is a steep mountain to climb
And your legs are weak and tired
When the slope is slippery and arduous
Do you lose sight of your goal?

When this body is shrieking in agony
And the final moment nears
When the last breath is seeping out
Can you smile and face death?

Courage is not bravado
You don’t have to shout and roar
It is that little voice within you
That constantly guides you

Life is…

April 5, 2011 12 comments

Sometimes I wonder , Is life…

A riddle?
and ponder on the purpose
of our existence

A journey?
all taking different paths
that lead to the same destination

A dream?
of fear, of success, of bliss
Until I wake up and it is over

A game?
played with team-spirit
sometimes we win, sometimes we lose

A drama?
We are actors in the unfolding scene
Playing our parts until the curtains fall

Music?
That sounds divine when played in harmony
To our inner voice

Poetry?
words that eulogise
the wonders  of nature that never cease

A thought?
that takes birth as a seed in the mind
and manifests as reality

A wave?
We will be tossed about unless
we learn to ride the ebb and flow

This moment?
in time which will fleet  by
Unless we are immersed  in it

Sleep

March 4, 2011 12 comments

Lying in the mothers lap
After a fun day
Sleep like a lullaby
Soothes the little infant

Fatigued, tanned bodies
Lie on the pavement
Sleep gives solace to them
Magical,  sweet sleep

Sleep tender sleep
You ease the pain
Calm the nerves
And appease tired souls

Like a loving mother
Who dotes all her kids
You bring tranquil peace
To thief, saint, beggar and  king

Sleep take me on a dream
To a world without walls
Where there is only joy and peace
And one does not belittle another
