Dream
What is the best dream you’ve ever had? Recount it for us in all its ethereal glory. If no dream stands out in your memory, recount your worst nightmare. Leave no frightening detail out.
Photographers, artists, poets: show us IMAGINARY.
(This is a poem which I had published last year and here I would like to post it again)
A gathering of familiar faces
Of relatives and of friends
A vexing thought revisited
In the canvas of my dream
From the inner recesses
Out of the blue
Objects, characters and emotions
Enact the play in my mind
Screams and sighs
Echoes of laughter
Chased by a tiger
Fights with that school bully
A medley of thoughts
Hidden desires
Resurface and unfold
In a whole new world
A reverie to remember
Or a nightmare best forgotten
Lost in this maze
Of my minds kaleidoscope
The alarm ring resonates
And I wake up with a start
Befuddled by this conundrum
That they call ‘A Dream’

Cherry blossoms
Cherry blossoms symbolize the arrival of spring, prosperity and joy.
In Japan, cherry trees, called “sakura,” and cherry blossom flowers are held in high regard. The Japanese people celebrate hanami annually. Hanami is basically parties organized to view blossoming cherry trees. They also symbolize innocence and simplicity.
We can all be like the cherry blossoms. Let us sow the seeds of positive thoughts in our minds so that there is a bountiful spring. Let us spend some time every day in introspection and improving the quality of our thoughts, reducing the quantity of our thoughts and directing our thoughts to a higher ideal!

Scribble pad
Like a stream in flow
I let my thoughts pour
As I let my pen scribble
An outlet for my mind
Free, smooth, unperturbed
Like an orchestra in symphony
I bear witness
To a part of myself
Nature, values, emotions
Thoughts on kith and kin
Community, nation and world
All weave a web of words
A poem to lift the spirits
Or a story to inspire
An article to inform
Or humour to lighten the mood
No need for grandiloquence
Simple, easy and lucid
No one to impress
Only myself to please
I hope to offer something
In all these writings
Touch a few hearts
Or just to seek the truth

Spring cleaning
Once in a while we need to take stock of the things that we collect in our store-rooms and in various corners of our home and work place (an inventory check). Today, morning was one such day. I set about clearing some of the things that we had just kept over the years and did not really use. Such things keep on accumulating and it can become quite a mess. It can be your workdesk or the kitchen table or the cupboard or the bookshelf. We look at it and postpone the cleaning until after a few weeks it becomes a mess. Some of the stuff can be recycled, some can be given to charity and some books can be sold to second-hand bookshops.
The Japanese did a regular inventory check as part of their work. They termed this as 5S – Seiri (sorting), Seiton (arrangement), Seiso (cleaning), Seiketsu (standardisation) and Shitsuke (self-discipline). A well-organized workplace results in a safer, more efficient, and more productive operation. It boosts the morale of the workers, promoting a sense of pride and ownership in their work.
We also need to do a regular spring cleaning of our mind. This can be done by reducing the quantity of our thoughts, improving the quality of our thoughts and directing our thoughts towards a higher ideal. This clears the dirt on the mirror of our mind and we are able to see a clearer reflection of our inner selves. Contemplation and meditation also help us to keep our focus and to dispel distracting negative thoughts. All this helps us to live in the present without wasting time brooding on the past or worrying about the future.
A spring cleaning can help us to think about our goals, align our energies towards these goals, plan, let go of self-limiting thoughts by letting go of the old and bringing in the new. Sometimes, a weekend retreat is a good time to take a break from the chores and recharge.
So, when are you starting your spring cleaning?
Free spirit
Chains bind me
Possessions
Money
Success
Security
Weighing down on me
A stream of thoughts
Leads me astray
Into a maze
Lost
I search
for a way out
Freedom beckons
To explore my passion
To question, criticize
Undeterred
Fearless
To rise high
On flights of fancy
Serene and peaceful
Where forms and shapes blend
And the world appears as one
When I look back
There are no chains
Is this dream or reality?
A figment of imagination?
Then all of a sudden
A soft voice
A whisper
And I close my eyes and listen
To the flight of the free spirit
