Day 30 – Your daughter tells you she is bringing home her boyfriend for dinner. When they arrive, she introduces you to a man who is not your same race. Sometime during dinner she announces that they have been married for the last six months. What bothers you more? The difference in race or being excluded from the wedding…

I think as parents we have to impart the right values and education to our children until they are independent.  After that we have no control over their choices and decisions and we have to respect their choice.  Today, we live in a globalised world and we cannot be so narrow minded as to thrust our choices upon our children.  Ofcourse, it is easy to say but there are a lot of considerations and adjustments when it comes to living with a person from another race.   But, once she has made her choice, I think I will respect it.

However, I would feel bad if I am excluded from the wedding.  As that shows a lack of trust and understanding.

Day 29 — My television is showing the same show on every channel. I really don’t mind watching ____________ (from the 1960′s) and I really love this show because…

I am a fan of PG Wodehouse and if there is a show I would watch from the 1960s it has to be  “The World of Wooster”.

Although there are numerous peaks in the vast literary output of P. G. Wodehouse (1881-1975), he has always been regarded with special affection for the novels and stories about young upper-class twit Bertram (‘Bertie’) Wooster and his invaluable manservant Jeeves, whose incalculably superior intellect is constantly needed in order to extricate his master from his latest scrape.

The  TV adaptation was not very satisfactory as it incorporated studio audience laughter which masks the linguistic subtleties of P G Wodehouse.

However, I would like to see the wonderful stories played on TV.

Day 28 — If I could do one thing that is socially unacceptable and know I would not be judged, I would…

Probably I wouldn’t be too conscious of being in the buff.  We would perhaps all go back in time to the days of the cavemen when there was no fear of being socially acceptable and everyone was their true self.

.As I would not be judged, I would probably go out, swim and run a marathon .  All my fellow bloggers would also be doing the same – right!

Day 27 — I have an inner voice, and if a friend spoke to me the way my inner voice does at times, I would…

In our moments of peace and calm, I believe that we are closest to our true selves.  It is at such times that we feel happy, confident and relaxed.

At times like these if we seek answers to our problems or situations  – then we get hints or directions from our inner voice.  I have experienced this before.  These hints are the best for us as the decisions are taken when we are calm and relaxed.

If a friend spoke to me like my inner voice then I would definitely listen . Because it is an echo of my inner voice, it would resonate with me and it would reinforce my belief in my decisions.

Day 26 — I would break the law to save a loved one if…

I would definitely try to protect my loved ones from danger.  If there is an attack for no reason or outrage of modesty on my loved one – it would be cowardice on my part  to just stand and watch.  In such a case I would intervene to protect my loved ones.

I would try not to take the law into my own hands as far as possible.  But if the situation is beyond control then I would be unable to restrain myself and  would be forced to break the law.

Day25 -My biggest pet peeve that has nothing to do with blogging, being online, computers or anything else related to the Internet is…

Elocution or speaking is my big interest. Although I am by nature introverted, I love to speak in front of an audience. I had this interest since school when I would take part in elocution, debates etc. It has helped me a lot to become comfortable and confident.

I joined Toastmasters International 2 years ago and now having completed 10 projects, I am a Competent Communicator. I would like to take this interest further by being involved in training and leadership for companies.

A typical chapter meeting at a club consists of Prepared speeches, Table topics (Impromptu speeches) and evaluations. There is also a language evaluator who can help you to improve understanding of pronunciation, articulation and grammar. A general evaluator gives tips on how to improve the meetings.

Toastmasters International is a great platform to conquer your speaking fears and to be evaluated by peers in your club. You also have an opportunity to develop leadership skills by taking on meeting roles or positions in the Exco of your club. You get to learn to write a good speech, to listen, to evaluate, to mentor, to give a humorous speech and to inspire others to join your club.

Day 24 — Given the choice between having to live the rest of my life without my voice, or living the rest of my life without the ability to hear, I would choose…

This question has put me in a dilemma (Morton’s fork situation).   Our voice is our expression and a vital part of everyday communication.  How we speak, how we articulate, our voice modulation, the ability to sing, to shout  and to laugh are all different expressions of our voice.  I am not loquacious by nature but still I believe that our voice is vital.  Even for a day – when you cannot talk to your loved ones, when you cannot wish them, express your love, your emotions, laughter, etc  it is a real predicament to be in.

If I am unable to hear it would  mean that I would not be able to listen to all the good music, discussions,  noise, etc. But  a totally silent world would also be scary.  Also, these senses are inter-related .. for eg.  You wouldn’t want to talk if you are unable to listen.

Given this choice, for me  – I would go with being deaf (I have to sacrifice the good music).  But it also means cutting off the gossip, loud noises and disturbances.  I guess – people would have to learn sign language inorder to communicate with me.

Day 23 — Allowing another person to fully love me means I must…

I will try to be open and sincere and not withhold anything in the relationship. There is no room for any kind of secrecy. And I must be ready to accept the other person for what they really are.

I have to be willing to share responsibilities, joys and sorrows in our relationship. Also, I must guard against my ego getting in the way so that there is always a give and take and the trust is always maintained.

We are all humans and we have imperfections – so there is bound to be friction in any relationship. The important thing is trust and understanding to communicate with each other and our belief that ups and downs will not rock our boat.

The main thing that matters is love. And everything else is just an experience!

Day 22 — Allowing another person to fully love me means they must…

April 22, 2012 Leave a comment

Well, I believe that we cannot put any conditions on love. Love is free, it is not binding, and love is more about letting go.

I wouldn’t restrict anyone from loving me. After all there is so much hate, anger, jealousy and bad emotions in the world that if each of us can spread a little love everyday, this world would be a far better place!

How another person or the world perceives me is not within my control. What is within my control is how I perceive myself and the world around me. If I am confident about myself and wish the best for everyone then I am sure that most people will also love me!

So, I would try my best to do atleast one good deed everyday – smile, do my job with love  and keep my family happy!

Day 21 – The person or persons that do not read my blog but I wish he/she/they would is…

April 21, 2012 Leave a comment

I would love my blog to be read by any celebrity writer, technologist, poet or speaker. This is because most of my posts are related to life, poetry, technology and leadership. I would love to have their comments and like to interact with them. I still consider myself a novice in this area and would love to have mentorship from people like Deepak Chopra, Shashi Tharoor, Robin Sharma, Ashwin Sanghi or Pete Cashmore.
