Papa loves Mambo
I grew up listening to Bollywood music. – the music of the 70s and 80s. The songs of Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar, Manna Dey, Geeta Dutt, Mukesh, Hemant Kumar, Bhupender, Asha Bhosle, Mohamed Rafi , the music of R. D. Burman, Laxmikant Pyarelal, Kalyanji Anandji and Shankar Jaikishen and the lyrics of Gulzar, Shailendra, Shakeel Badayuni, Indeevar, Anand Bakshi, Hasrat Jaipuri, Kaifi Azmi and Sahir Ludhianvi etc are evergreen and still resonate with me today.
The movies of those years were screened in our colony almost every month and I was fortunate to have watched those classic movies and see how the playback singers were so versatile and could do the voice for the stars of those days like Rajesh Khanna, Sanjeev Kumar, Shammi Kapoor, Shashi Kapoor, Amitabh Bachchan, Jeetendra, Manoj Kumar, Waheeda Rahman, Vyjanthimala, Nutan, Saira Bhanu, Mumtaz etc.
Good songs according to me are a combination of great lyrics, soulful music and beautiful rendition. And these can be found in any language. The great poets, music composers and singers of yesteryears will always remain in our hearts as they have left behind a rich legacy of music!

I’ll listen to almost anything once, but I am a TRUE child of the 80’s and pop music rules in my world. Good question, Sajeev!
